Up Six & Rising

A year ago, after a long haul with weight watchers flex points, I weighed 133.

Today?

Eh...about 139.

I know that's only six pounds but things are trending up and I need to put a stop to it.

Ever since my grandmother died in October I've been cheating.

Carbohydrates are the official food of grief.

Two evil culprits are cornbread and pancakes.

Cornbread because I have somehow talked myself into it magically being practically points free compared to all other bread and so I can eat a frying pan sized piece.

Pancakes because... well... my kids left me such delicious bites and...

Gah!

The other way I have been cheating has been unintentional.

I have creatively forgotten the correct points value for some foods and assigned my own, much lower points value.

[Mighty convenient, eh?!!]

Just the other day I told Karen that 1/2 cup of Fiber One cereal, one cup of plain, non-fat yogurt and a tablespoon of sugar free jam is one point.

Not so.

One cup of plain, non-fat yogurt is two points. [Duh!]

I got on this whole fresh figs jag in the fall having convinced myself that fresh figs were zero points. [Um...not so.]

So here I am -- up six pounds and gaining fast.

When I heard
these fine ladies were writing this blog with a five pound goal for a start, I decided I needed to get back on the true points wagon.

Doing it with them seemed like a smart way to re-learn the system, points values, etc. and to practice doing it right.

Summer's coming and some of my clothes are going to be too tight and too uncomfortable to wear if I don't turn this around.

Today I printed out my own version of the weight watchers daily journal (an excel document that I"ll see if I can figure out how to post here) and I'm all set to let the journaling and counting begin again tomorrow.

Hey you, Six Pound Charlie... You're going DOWN!!!

When I read your snack comment I thought - Where can I get the one point yogurt??!!

Since we're talking yogurt, when I want something sweet (like the apple crisp I just made my kids....ohhhhhh) I have a Yoplait Light Apple Pie. TOTALLY not the same thing, but as long as you're not looking at the apple crisp it does a nice job.

Last night I poured frozen raspberries and blueberries into a small bowl and covered them with three servings (at twenty calories each) of fat free Cool Whip. Less than two points, and I didn't defrost the berries, so it took me a while to eat!

Jen - there are a lot of one point yogurts out there, and some very good (and healthy) two point yogurts. Most supermarkets have a light yogurt that comes in about a point (but it typically has artificial sweeteners); Stoneyfield Farm brand nonfat is 2 pts because it has 2g of fiber.

I'm betting you could do a baked apple for a negligible amount of points and top with a tablespoon of grape nuts for a apple crisp like experience.

I also need to lose weight. I've lost about 25-30 pounds since January. I'd like to lose another 40 before next January for my son's wedding.
